Is it worth becoming an Automotive Locksmith?

There are many reasons to become an Auto-locksmith, namely the large profits that can bemade once you are established. But a question that I have heard many people ask is: "Is it worth it?"

In my opinion, the answer is yes and in this article I will explain each of the reasons that I think this is a fantastic career choice for anyone who wants to make a lot of money while being challenged on a daily basis!

Automotive Locksmithing is a largely unsaturated industry. I mean think about it, how many Auto-locksmiths do you know in your area? There will certainly be a few covering the area, but compared to many other trades (such as mechanics, electricians, plumbers etc) there is usually a lot less competition to deal with. And there are certainly no shortage of cars to work on!

If you are fed up with your current job, fancy a change of pace, or just want to do something a bit more exciting then I strongly recommend considering Automotive Locksmithing

Here are just a few of the reasons why:

Personal Freedom

One of the greatest benefits of Self-employment is being able to choose your own working hours. Some Automotive Locksmith's work only weekdays, only weekends or some choose to offer a 24/7 Emergency Callout Service!

The ability to tailor your business around your lifestyle is a massive bonus to anyone interested in joining this industry

Career Stability

Automotive Locksmiths have a lot of job security, because there are millions of cars on the roads and very few locksmiths available.

Every day people are accidentally locking their keys in their cars, losing their keys entirely or sometimes an old key can simply stop working.

All of these scenarios require an Auto-locksmith to come to the rescue and you can always rest assured that the work will never "dry up".

In fact the industry is constantly evolving, with vehicle security systems becoming more and more advanced. This means that in the future, qualified and capable Auto-locksmiths will be more necessary than ever!

Money

This is often the most important thing to consider when choosing a career path. It is important to choose a career that you find interesting and that you enjoy, but it is even more important to ensure that you will be able to live comfortable from your income!

The good news is that Auto-locksmithing is a very lucrative trade! Most dealerships charge massive amounts for replacing car keys, and by simply beating their price you can make a lot of money.

For example, if a key costs £40 to buy, and the transponder chip costs £6 then that means the key is costing you £46 to provide. If the customer has lost their keys and needs a replacement, then you can charge upwards of £250 for that key! And in many cases it takes less than an hour and half to complete! If you do several of those in a day then you can make between £500 and £1000 in a single day!

Once they have learned the trade and established their business, a successful Automotive Locksmith can expect to be earning anywhere from £60,000 to £100,000 every year!

Constantly Evolving Industry

The Auto Locksmith Industry is evolving constantly, in order to keep up with the latest technological advances in vehicle security. This not only means that the future is bright for locksmiths, with plenty of new opportunities coming our way, but it also means that the number of niche services that an auto-locksmith can offer is always expanding!

If you enjoy a job that provides new challenges and requires you to learn something new on a regular basis then this is potentially the perfect career choice for you!

Training and Equipment is cheaper than ever!

One of the biggest struggles that people used to face when trying to become an Automotive Locksmith was the expense.

Key Cutting and Programming Equipment can be very expensive and up until a few years ago, it could cost upwards of fifty thousand pounds for a half decent setup.

In recent years these tools have become cheaper, with manufacturers such as Autel, Xhorse and KeyDIY leading the market for affordable yet high quality equipment!

For example, a good Key Cutting Machine used to cost around £15,000 but now you can purchase an Xhorse Key Cutter for around £1400

This means that is now easier than ever to get into this industry, even if you are starting out on a budget!

Online Training is now available!

Many training courses cost thousands of pounds for just a couple of days training, and require you to travel to a training centre. This means that on top of the already expensive training course, you must also pay for travel and hotels during your course, which can add up very quickly, and it isn't unusual for trainees to end up spending over £5000 for just a couple of days!

The great news is its now possible to complete your training online! This saves a lot of money, time and effort and allows you to spend more money on tools and equipment!
